In my opinion...
I am completely POSITIVE that Yugioh's origin is from Egypt. Why not, ne? It's gotta be from Egypt, hence the ancient tombstones and stuff, and even the Sennen Puzzle is from Egypt, du-u-uh. Right? If you don't believe it, I can make a list of all the things in Yugioh that are related to Egypt. The Sennen (Millennium) Puzzle, the Millennium Ring, the Millennium Eye, The Millennium Ankh, the Millennium Scales, The Millennium Tauk, Millennium Rod, Isis Ishtar - she's not a thing! she's a person, and she's named after an Egyptian Goddess, Isis - hey, the Duel Monsters game was originated from games played several millennias ago. They were called the Shadow Games - Pegasus J. Crawford had resurrected the ancient games in the form of playing cards. But last time, the monsters were all real!! The three god cards are engraved upon a tombstone in the manga, and they are also carved upon Mariku (Malik) Ishtar's back. And...OK, I won't say that ALL now, so just read on, people!! I'm not exactly sure about the information, since some clash, but I'll guarantee you a large portion of it is correct. Trust me!! ^_^

Ah, if you want to read this section, prepared to be bored with my long rants. I have done some research in my school ( It took 2 months!!!) So if this info isn't correct, I'm gonna faint. So if you didn't heed this warning anyway - just read, no harm will come from it.

Cards

The God Cards: OK, we know there are three God Cards in the game of Duel Monsters: The Saint Dragon of Osiris, The God of Obelisk, and The Sun of God Dragon - or rather the Dragon of Ra, or whatever. These three cards are related to Egypt: Osiris is the son of the Sun-god, Ra. Basically, he was the ex-pharaoh of Egypt, and yeah, he was worshipped as a deity. Everyone knew he had magical powers - etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Millennium Items

All the Millennium Items...not including the Millennium Tauk and the Millennium Rod.

The Millennium Scales and the Millennium Ankh
The Millennium Ring
The Millennium Puzzle
The Millennium Eye
The Millennium Tauk
The Millennium Rod

Millennium Scales, Millennium Ankh: Ya know Shadi? From manga 2 and 3. He carries the Millennium Scales and the Millennium Ankh. According to Shadi (in Yugioh) he is the follower of Anubis (No, not the Neopet's petpet), the jackal-headed deity of Egypt who judged the worthy and unworthy to pass over to the other side with the Goddess Ma'at. According to the Bell M Full book, The Book of the Dead, Ma'at, in the legend, carries a feather on her head, which is also known as The Feather of Truth. Got me? Good. The Ba, or the soul of the deceased hangs around the scales, and the deceased itself will be brought upon the God Thoth to be judged, with a scarab beetle placed over the heart to keep it silent throughout the judgment. Anubis will ask questions concerning the sins of the deceased, and if necessary, the deceased will attempt to deceive the gods in order to pass through this ordeal and pass to blessed eternity. A feather would be placed on one end of the scales and the deceased's heart on the other. Basically, if your heart is weighed upon it and it stays at the same level as the feather, you will be judged as worthy to pass over. However, if Anubis caught the deceased lying, or the deceased had done unforgivable sins during his or her life, the heart will slowly gain weight and once the heart's side hits the ground, you will be considered unworthy and you shall be consumed and devoured by the half-crocodile, half-lion, half-hippopotamus creature, Ammut, who lurks near the Goddess Ma'at and lies before the God Thoth. The Ankh is considered a sacred symbol of Egypt - however, I don't really know much about it. My specialty's are the Book of the Dead. ^_^

Millennium Ring: Ryou-chan owns this Millennium Item. Through the Millennium Ring, Ryou is possessed by the soul of an ex-grave robber, and becomes Yami Bakura. The Millennium Ring holds the power to imprison someone in an item: refer to the episode where Bakura changed them all into card monsters, episode 13, if I'm not mistaken, and in the Japanese series, Yami Bakura changed them all into Monster World dolls. There is no information or reference to Bakura in Egypt whatsoever, so...well, read on!
Millennium Puzzle: The Eye there? Well, that's the Sacred Eye of Ra. Believe it or not, ancient Egyptians worshipped the thing, believing it to be the symbol of the Sun God himself. Ra and Osiris are often pictured with the Sacred Eye behind them. Actually, the existence of the Puzzle itself is unbeknownst - but we are sure that the Shadow Games existed.

Millennium Eye: Yet again, the Eye of Ra. ^_^ As seen on a tombstone in volume 15, when Pegasus J. Crawford visited Egypt after the death of his beloved, he was brought to a Pyramid where he witnessed a Punishment Game to a man who tried to wear the Millennium Ring. He saw a tombstone, which seemed to show a Pharaoh holding the Millennium Items. At that time, the Millennium Puzzle had already been taken (however, Yugi solved it _years_ later) as well as the Millennium Ankh, Tauk, and the Rod. The Millennium Eye, the Millennium Scale and the Millennium Ring remained. The Millennium Eye was then taken out and Shadi's followers forced Pegasus to dig out his eye, and they placed the Millennium Eye in its place instead. Pegasus then had the illusion that his beloved had come back from the dead, and that's why he took out his real eye in the first place: Shadi promised him that he would be able to meet his loved one again (sniff) How touching. Basically, it symbolized the Eye of Ra, and it was therefore a sacred item - because it somehow gave people the ability to read minds, just like Ra does when he wanted to punish the unworthy.

Millennium Tauk: Owned by Isis Ishtar, holds the ability to predict into the near future. In manga 27, Isis gives the Tauk to Yugi, and therefore Yugi is the new owner...no other info. ^_^;; Gomen, but the Yugioh series hasn't ended yet. Maybe more information...ne?

Millennium Rod:Owned by Malik Ishtar of Egypt. It possesses the soul of a dark duelist in his past life. The Millennium Rod somehow has the power of telekinesis, and it can also be used as a dagger. It is actually supposed to belong to Seto Kaiba, as it is engraved on the ancient tombstones. Perhaps Seto will get it sooner or later, ne? Anyway, the person who wielded the Millennium Rod in his past life was a priest and a player of the Shadow Games as mentioned earlier. That's all, I guess.

Characters

Isis Ishtar: The sister of the somewhat insane Malik Ishtar, she possesses the Millennium Tauk which enables her to see into the near future. Enough...back to the subject. Isis's character was based on an ancient Egyptian Goddess. She was described as "loyal", "beautiful" and "stunning". She is every of the above right now in Yugioh. ^_^ You can see her as loyal because of her never-giving up attitude to rescue her brother Osiris - see below. In short, Isis Ishtar was named after Isis, the beautiful deity of Egypt - simple?

Seto Kaiba: Yeah!! I bet you were wondering about him. Fact is - Seto's name was taken based on Osiris's brother, Seth. Want the story? Well...Osiris was very popular and plus, he was a handsome deity. He was renowned among the gods, and yeah, Seth was jealous of him. Anyways, Seth was jealous of his own brother, and murdered Osiris. His sister, Isis was very sad, and yes, she found Osiris's body, and she hid his body in a swamp. However, Seth found the body, and cut it into 14 pieces, and let it flow freely along the river. Yet _again_ the loyal Isis set off to search for them again, and she found 13 pieces. The last remaining one was…uh, man's private part. I hate to say this, but this is according to history, what can I say…and eventually she made Osiris come back to life with magic. Seth was punished for his evil deeds…y'know what? Seth's picture in the hieroglyphics in the tomb looks like Kaiba!! ^_^

Yugi/Yami Yugi: He's not named after any of the gods or deities, but he is a player of the Shadow Games. Right...in the Yugioh manga and anime, he is often described to have a third eye appearing on his forehead when playing the Games of Darkness. The eye is the symbol of Ra, the Sun-god, and the eye means the Sacred Eye of Ra. And I think there was a part in mythology that Ra was once Pharaoh of Egypt. This means that Yami Yugi is probably the reincarnation of Ra - well, about this one, I'm not so sure. But if he is - then it suits him. ^_^ Kakkoii God!! Heh…*yells as her aibou comes and drags her off the com*

Shadi: Same as above, mentioned in the Millennium Scales.

Uh, I think that's all from the Characters section. Read on!!!

Well, it hasn't been finished yet, lol. Keep checking back for updates!! ^_^ Domo!!
