He is a terrible person, driven by his own ambition with little or no regard for others, as well as a desertor of a father, who only calls his son to use him a as a Evangelion pilot. He married Yui, Shinji's mother, to get closer to what was becoming NERV. He created Rei Ayanami and loves her more then his son, even burning his palms to save her when EVA 00 went berserk. Despite this, he treated Rei III as a doll, a tool. All in all, he is a horrible person who deserved his fate.
