After Alen found the magical 'purple stone,' in the Salva Mines, he changed suddenly. While he was normally a kind person, who came to Arlia from Salva, so that he could see and court Rena, he changed into an obsessive and evil man. As not to arouse a lot of attention, he still acted kind towards the residents of Arlia, until the day the stone grabbed Alen's emotional peak.

Alen, who, under the influence of the stone, ordered a large altar/church room built in the Salva mines. Planning not to wait any longer, he, along with many of his armed guards, went to Arlia, and kidnapped Rena. He took her back to his mansion, where she found a portrait of herself, and he locked the doors of the mansion, so that noone could get in, or out; not even the servents.

Rena tried to find her way out, and managed to find the only way she could; a passage out into the mine. Guards were guarding the entrance to the mine, so she still could not get out, and she ended up stumbling into the altar room that Alen had created. Alen grabbed Rena, and tied her to the altar (in the anime, he tied her to a chair), and proceeded the 'ceremony,' under the guidance and magic of the purple stone.

Before the cermony could complete, Claude (and Yuki, the jam shop owner, if you go by the anime), crash the party as they run in and try to save Rena. In the anime, which I think portrays Alen better than the game does, Rena's saddened gaze, full of pity, turns Alen's emotions wild enough for the stone to take him over, and he turns into a monster. In the game, however, after Claude manages to untie Rena, Alen goes nuts and transforms into the next boss..

Alen-Tax, or so the boss is called, is a very demonic-looking being, who has little HP in the game (only 400). He's easy to KO in the game, but in the anime, Claude has a little trouble, and smashes the stone to defeat Alen-Tax. Either way, Alen is defeated, and he falls to the floor, human once again (if you're watching the anime, he's shirtless, and it looks bishilicious ^^), and no longer under the influence of the shattered purple stone.

Dazed, and unaware of everything that had just happened, Alen re-awakens. The party explains what he had done, and he apologizes, ashamed with what he had done. He explains about how he had found the stone, and accompanies the party back to Arlia, apoligizing to the Mayor and the townspeople for taking Rena, and acting the way he was. After a long conversation(anime), the party desides to head out for Cross, Rena going with Claude. In the game, Alen's gone home, and he's no longer of any importance in the game. However, before leaving the anime, Alen gives Claude and Rena a ride to Cross in a carriage he drives himself. What a sweetie.
