Its pretty much common knowledge that the final tagline of
Cowboy Bebop is "You're Gonna Carry That Weight"
(its also written on the final LD cover). Of course, its
debatable whether it means the characters have to carry that
weight (personal burden, sadness, guilt, etc.) or if
we the viewers have to carry it because the show is now over.
The tagline, of course, is a lyric in the "song" Carry That Weight from the Beatles Abbey Road album. This "song", though, is part of a longer medley which is bits and pieces of songs the lads started but never finished. So, tho' its Carry That Weight is listed as an individual song on the album, its really part of a larger work. Now for the keen bit. The larger medley itself is broken up into bits, so that there's a few beats between sections. The section that Carry That Weight is in is known as the Golden Slumbers section, for the song which fronts that portion (Golden Slumbers, natch!). So, in the long run, Carry That Weight can be seen as just one bit of the Golden Slumbers section, and the line "You're Gonna Carry That Weight", as being from the larger portion. So, looking at that line in the larger context of its section, it might shed some further light on how Cowboy Bebop ends:
... well, maybe ...
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Boy, you gotta carry that weight
not listed separately on album
I never give you my pillow
Boy, you gotta carry that weight
Oh yeah, all right
Love you,
And in the end
(Except for all those "Love You's". I counted
them ... all 24 of them ... aaarrrggghhh ...)
