Surf Report - June 11, 2003

surfshot.com sez (my comments in bold italics):

Waves breaking at the usual peak, flawless lines peeling for sides and glassy.

You guys see this - "flawless lines peeling..."

This is the perfect place to go - stay here -stay away from all LJ Reefs north!

Kind of steep drop and it gets a little mushy after that.

Still very good rides at Bird Rock this morning and workable walls are there too.

Waves size: Waist high

Sets size: Shoulder high

Sets Interval: 6-7 min.

Surfers Out: Over 10 guys

Wind: Calm

Weather: Cloudy skies

Before you surf here, you gotta ask yourself:
"Self, do I really wanna surf here?
The water's always polluted, the locals are always hostile, how safe is my car?
And - what if Bill Decker paddles out - will he kick my butt?"

==========================

What I say:

Rented a car last night so I could surf WindanSea this morning.

Was the investment worth while?

YEAH - BABY!!

For WindanSea - pretty south - maybe 200 degrees?

Long intervals, lots of waves per set.

I was in the right place every time, caught 3 great outside waves.

No fuss, no muss, no bother -

Notables in the line-up besides ME:

Marne - she was ripping - maybe a Reef Sponsorship coming up?

Aussie Dale

Felipe

Buzzy

Santiago

Parking Lot Notables:

Bill Decker

Joe Roper

Jim Thorpe

Tom Ortner

Charlie Carter

Later,

Oops Forgot Some Stuff:

Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:

* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.

I'm doing this web thing for a few reasons, and it is, and will be, "a work in progress" for a while:

1. It's an easy way for me to organize my "autobiography" so my kids will know a bit more about me.
2. I find this computer and internet stuff fascinating.
3. I was lucky to be able to start surfing - at least in my opinion - in the "Golden Age" of surfing - I do have some yarns to spin regarding those times.
4. This is an efficient way for some of the old guys to touch bases again - I've received a few e-mails from old (err, long-time) friends I've haven't seen in forty years or so - I think that's way cool.
5. I'm still surfing almost every day - and, at least in my opinion - that's a pretty "boss" thing to write about.
6. I think it will be nice, in a couple of years, to maybe look back at how good - or bad - the surf was in any given stretch of time.
