Surf Report - July 28 - 30, 2003 -

Survived another Special Olympics Day - Every time it just gets better and better!

My Team Fuji Disposable photos are here (they suck, don't look at 'em)

Surfing Special Olympics - 2003 -

Peter King's Digital Nikon Photos are here (they don't suck, please look at 'em)

Photos By Peter - Mr. MTV - King

Last Sunday, it was getting a little crowded in Rat Land with:

Surf Nazis - -

Illegal Aliens - -

Boogers and more!

Got WindanSea on Monday, not bad, got it again today, WindanSea Sunrise. The south is starting to hit - maybe tomorrow or Friday.

Notables:

Neptune's Corner:
Lance 1 got stabbed, err, slashed, last weekend - a slight disagreement, apparently - regarding east coast versus west coast machismo.

Lance 2 is another one of those guys who has the high I.Q., and I would honestly trust him with my life, but has spent a bit too much time trying to find his place in this world.

WindanSea Parking Lot:
"The Mysterious Appearance of Mike Doyle"
Mike came through the lot this morning. He currently has a photo exhibit at Del Mar, and induction into Huntington Beach's Walk of Surfing Hall of Fame tomorrow.

Mike surfed WindanSea last night, and got hacked by somebody:

MD to somebody: "Hey, don't hack me!"

Somebody to MD: "Hey, don't yell at me you old man!"

MD to somebody (as Mike's hands closed around somebody's neck) : "Hey are you a local?"

Somebody (gasping for air) to MD: "Yeah I am, and you're pretty strong for an old man!"

MD to somebody: "You're lucky, if you weren't a WindanSea local, I'd drown you!"

I made-up most of the MD story, by the way!

Mike and I caught-up on some old names:

1. Bill "The Worm" Engler

2. Garth Murphy

3. Reno

Yada - Mike's a great guy, and he and I shared many perfect days / waves at Black's in the seventies.

WindanSea Line-up:
ME - of course!

Historian John

Mid-West Tony

Gordie

Quiggs - Not Joe Quigg!

Oops Forgot Some Stuff:

Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:

* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.

I'm doing this web thing for a few reasons, and it is, and will be, "a work in progress" for a while:

1. It's an easy way for me to organize my "autobiography" so my kids will know a bit more about me.
2. I find this computer and internet stuff fascinating.
3. I was lucky to be able to start surfing - at least in my opinion - in the "Golden Age" of surfing - I do have some yarns to spin regarding those times.
4. This is an efficient way for some of the old guys to touch bases again - I've received a few e-mails from old (err, long-time) friends I've haven't seen in forty years or so - I think that's way cool.
5. I'm still surfing almost every day - and, at least in my opinion - that's a pretty "boss" thing to write about.
6. I think it will be nice, in a couple of years, to maybe look back at how good - or bad - the surf was in any given stretch of time.
