Surf Report - April 17, 2003

===================================================================

surfshot.com sez - (my comments in bold italics):

Ok waves this morning at Swamis.

There is a nice drop but the wave is pretty mushy and short. - nuff said - The Swarm is always mushy and short - Stay Away!!

=========================================================

What a real pro predicts:

Mix of short period waves from the west and a long period swell from the south (the latter especially evident at Oceanside and Dana Pt. but present at some of the other buoys as well).

The south should be peaking this afternoon.

What I say: - Check the
Wave Height Charts - He's always right!!

The Swarm - this morning - April 17, 2003 -

======================================================================

Today was a good day to be reasonably mobile.

Today was my Free Pass Surf Day at WindanSea, but transportation is still an issue.

By combining my surf ambitions for the AM surf, and my wife's (CJ) morning walk with doggy (Cody) at a dog friendly beach, I could get in the water.

We were able to make another speed run to Driver's, I got good waves, and CJ and Cody were able to recreate and socialize with humans and canines.

- A BA hint about the top secret location of "Driver's" e.g.: a Dog Friendly Beach -

Nobody else out - maybe the water's polluted?

Got out of the water and to the train station in Solana Beach for the Coaster Ride to Sorrento Valley.

Still able to be at my desk by 7:30 AM - WHEW -

When I paddled out, the wind was a brisk NE offshore, when I came in, it had switched to South -

I'll bet the Shaws will be good later today with the South Wind.

Later,

BA

Opps Forgot Some Stuff:

Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:

* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.

I'm doing this web thing for a few reasons, and it is, and will be, "a work in progress" for a while:

1. It's an easy way for me to organize my "autobiography" so my kids will know a bit more about me.
2. I find this computer and internet stuff fascinating.
3. I was lucky to be able to start surfing - at least in my opinion - in the "Golden Age" of surfing - I do have some yarns to spin regarding those times.
4. This is an efficient way for some of the old guys to touch bases again - I've received a few e-mails from old (err, long-time) friends I've haven't seen in forty years or so - I think that's way cool.
5. I'm still surfing almost every day - and, at least in my opinion - that's a pretty "boss" thing to write about.
6. I think it will be nice, in a couple of years, to maybe look back at how good - or bad - the surf was in any given stretch of time.
