Welcome to our page about Apartheid. If you aren't Mrs. Monte-Sano, you may be asking: What exactly is Apartheid? It was a system of institutionalized racism that was pivotal to the South African culture and economy. The white minority imposed strict and unfair laws targeted at controlling the black majority's rights and economic situation. Black people could not vote and the best land, schools, jobs, beaches, facilities, etc. were restricted to whites. Apartheid as an institution ended but the struggle was difficult and its legacy continues.
