November 9, 2009
This past weekend was the Greater Washington Bead Bazaar in Gaithersburg, Md - only a 30-40 minute drive from home. I consider this a "local" show even though it is closer to Washington, DC, then home. I see a lot of familiar faces and always make new friends. It was a very nice show and I did fairly well. A good way for me to end the "show season" for 2009. Mark your calendars to come to one of these shows - lots of nice beady goodies! I got some of my Christmas shopping done for my beady friends - always a plus! I am going to sort of be out of the loop for the next month or so. I have to have some surgery on my shoulder - right one, of course. Right now, we are not sure how bad it is as there is so much "junk" in there, the surgeon could not see all of the rotator cuff. But I have my fingers crossed that that part is okay! It will mean that I will be off the torch for awhile. Sigh! But it has to be done. I have stocked up my galleries as much as I can and Beth will have a few of my beads at her table at a show coming up in Dec. I'll post those details later.) I can fill orders from my current stock (the hubby can pack and ship!!) but will not be able to take custom requests for this holiday season. Sorry, folks. You can definitely see that the holidays season is in full gear at the large retail outlets. Please don't forget the artists that make all those wonderful handmade, one-of-a-kind items that also make terrific gifts - the kind that are passed on and become family heirlooms. I'll be back online soon! October 20, 2009 Things have really been busy around here. Gary, Jack (our fur child) and I are going to Key West next week for a brief shot of lovely warm Florida weather and the weekend after that is Greater Washington Bead Bazaar (Gaithersburg, MD - November 7-8). I want to have new beads and some more of your favorites for that bazaar. So I have been trying to spend some time in the studio every day. Below you will see some of the newest of my designs:
I call the first series "Leaves and Branches" because the pulled dots remind me of branches of leaves. The second series I call "Fiesta Flowers" - they remind me of the beads my friend Sam Hibler makes in the Southwest. Her designs are inspired by the Mexican festivals held there and the colors and desigs of those festivals. So are my beads by I really didn't see it until I put the collection together. What do you think? And I will keep on woprking on new things! Stay tuned! October 5, 2009 I had a wonderful weekend at the Northern Virginia Bead Bazaar. I met lots of new people and saw many of my favorite customers. If you could not make it this time, hope you can come the Greater Washington Bead Bazaar (Gaithersburg, MD - November 7-8).
Yes, there was new work! And it sold very well. I will have more new work at the GWBB as I will be working a lot between now and then! October 1, 2009 This weekend is the Northern Virginia Bead Bazaar!!! This is one of the finest bead events in the DC/Baltimore metropolitan area. There are lots of vendors for all the supplies and tools you need plus lots of beadmakers with their newest and finest work! A great opportunity to stock up for yourself and look for gifts for your beadmaking buddies. Northern Virginia Bead Bazaar Saturday, Oct. 3 -- 10am-5pm Sunday, October 4 -- 10:30am-4:30pm Vienna Community Center, Vienna, Virginia For directions, a list of vendors, and $1 off coupon, follow the link above Sure hope you can make it and see all the goodies! September 18, 2009 I have been challenging myself to stay with a limited color palette and see what happens. So I picked reds, purples, a dash of blue and raku stringer. Below is the result so far! Hope you like them.
September 8, 2009 It just hit me - I haven't posted anything here for a month. The summer has flown by and fall is here! Wow! Temperatures have finally cooled down around here and the humidity is low. I feel more like doing stuff that I need to do. But that doesn't mean I haven't been working. I couple weeks ago I took a lot of new work to Arts Afire Glass Gallery in Alexandria, VA. Then I took work to Frances Aubrey (an fellow NCAGG member) who is opening a new gallery in Baltimore, MD, in mid-October. I am now working on rebuilding my stock to restock other galleries that I send work to. I have also sent in applications for shows that are coming up. I am scheduled to participate in the Northern Virginia Bead Bazaar (Vienna,VA - October 3-4) and the Greater Washington Bead Bazaar (Gaithersburg, MD - November 7-8). Both of these shows are excellent opportunities for you to see and purchase my new work and to stock up on all your finding needs. Nora Robert's shop, Gifts Inn Boonsboro (Boonsboro, MD), is celebrating it's first year on October 17 and I am scheduled to demo that day in the garden. I sure am hoping for good weather! I have also sent in my applications for the Key West Craft Show (January 30-31, 2010) and Pigeon Key Art Festival (February 6-7, 2010) so I am thinking pretty far down the road. Should be an exciting season! So things are busy around here. I'll try to do a better job of keeping up wiwth the news! Enjoy the rest of the summer! As always - enjoy each day to the fullest! Debby |
