Dear Friends,

People want to know why I ran for Representative.

My response is clear and simple. As I approach the later years of my life, I have come to realize that if we are going to secure our future and the future of our children, we are going to have to step up and, with constructive motives, speak out on the issues that will help preserve our freedoms and our blessed way of life.

I have been in the trenches with the young people of Texas, teaching since 1972. Also, I spent years on the streets of East Austin pulling students out of gangs and helping them get off drugs.

We must put our elderly back in the place of respect they once held. We can do that by pushing their needs and issues to the forefront of our planning. We need to protect their retirement funds and ease their tax burden.

In our schools let's support our teachers with generous pay and a good health insurance package for all teachers.

Let's get our students on paths of study tailored to their aptitudes, interests and chosen career fields. "No child left behind" should mean that we make education fit where they are going, not where we want them to go.

May those who have been elected pursue these causes relentlessly.
