Hamilton Bohannon I couldn't decide on which song was going to be this month's feature to save my life! Until I found my copy of Bohannon's Stop & Go, which I had misplaced for months. (Turned out, I'd put the vinyl in the album jacket for a Mark Radice/Brass Construction album!!!)

Well, here it is--just one funky track out of a bunch of 'em from Hamilton Bohannon's first-ever album. This month's feature, "Getting to the Other Side," as well as the rest of the album, boasts the rhythm section of The Counts and Travis Biggs on electric violin. It's essentially a slowed-down version of "Stop & Go," and it chugs along with the help of some serious percussion from Leslie Bass and the funky drumming of Mr. Bohannon.

Atlanta-native Bohannon is one of the most unique (and underrated) artists of funk, disco, and rare groove. He played with Gargantuan drumsticks, sharp leisure suits, and a permed coiffure. His lyrics, most times simple, often times featuring Bohannon spelling his own name. But don't let the surface fool you. Bo is quite talented and served as a Motown house band leader before striking out on his solo career. He's had hits (mainly 1974's "Foot Stompin' Music" and 1978's "Let's Start the Dance"), and released nearly 20 albums throughout his career.

He's been referred to as "the original disco drummer." As you'll see with "Getting to the Other Side," Bo knows more than just disco. Enjoy.
