Longadu Family

On 17 February 2011, the Bengali settlers backed by Border Guards of Bangladesh attacked the indigenous people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma family pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.


Bengali settlers attempt to grab indigenous owned land in Manikchari

On 8 May 2011 Muslim settlers attempted to grab indigenous owned land at Warkchari of Luklukya area under Hafchari union in Manikchari. On that day in the morning around 10 am a group of Muslim settlers went Warkchari of Luklukya area and started to clean up jungle to erect houses. Tension arose while indigenous villagers opposed them.

On that day in the evening Muslim settlers gathered near indigenous villages and attempted to attack indigenous villages. On the other hand, indigenous villagers organised themselves to resist the Muslim settlers’ attack.
