Bengali settlers rape an indigenous Buddhist girl in Panchari

On 27 May 2016, Muslim settlers raped a 14 years old indigenous Buddhist girl in Panchari, Khagrachari district. Muslim settlers raped her when she went to a bamboo farm near her village Joutha Khamar Para to gather bamboo shoots.

Another girl much younger then herself, was along with the 14 years old victim. The younger girl ran away when a Muslim settler grabbed the victim. The younger girl then informed the villagers about the incident which took place at about 10 am.

By the time the villagers reached the spot, the Muslim settlers had already escaped. They recovered the victim and then sent her to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for medical examination.

The victim is a student of Panchari Bazar Pilot High School and belongs to indigenous Marma community. The name of the Muslim settler could not be known immediately, but according to the victim he lives at Domdom under Panchari Sadar Union. She said she knew him by face and that she would be able to identify him if presented before her.
