Bengali settlers murder a Buddhist monk in Naikhyangchari

On 14 May 2016, Muslim settlers murder a 75 year old Buddhist monk at Chakpara of Baishari union in Naikhyangchhari, Bandarban district. The body of Maung Shue U. Chak was found in the morning of 14 May 2016 by his daughter-in-law Manung Ching when she went to give him some food. Muslim settlers slit his throat.

Maung Shue U Chak was living alone in the hillside temple after having recently left farming to become a full-time monk. He had a land dispute with Muslim settlers. Muslim settlers were trying to grab his land. Muslim settlers repeatedly threatened Maung Shue U Chak with death unless he vacated his land.

Bangladesh government tried to portray the killing as work of the Islamic extremists like recent killing of atheist bloggers, secular publishers, gay rights activists and minority rights activists. No Islamic extremist group claimed responsibility for the killing of the Buddhist monk. Bangladesh army and government are trying to hide the involvement of Muslim settlers in the guise of Islamic extremist involvement.
