Jyoti Ranjan Chakma, victim of Muslim settler attack at Jaliapara
On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. At Jaliapara, the Muslim settlers stopped every vehicle and looked for indigenous people. Senior government official Jyoti Ranjan Chakma was taken off a bus and severely beaten up.

Bangladesh army arrest an indigenous Buddhist in Sajek

On 01 Jan 2016, Bangladesh army arrested an indigenous Chakma man from Machalong in Sajek on suspicion of involvement with the burning down of a tourist microbus in the area on 31 Dec 2015.

Mono Shanti Chakma (27) son of Rabindra Chakma went to his farm at 3:30pm when a group of Bangladesh army men arrested him.

Bangladesh army took him to Machalong army camp and severely beat him during interrogation.

Bangladesh army has been carrying out massive operations in Sajek since the Thursday’s attack on the microbus carrying an army officer and his family who were returning from a tourist resort on Ruilui hill.
