Kalpana Chakma
On 12 June 1996 Bangladesh Army led by Lt. Ferdous abducted Kalpana Chakma (23), a human rights activist from her home at Lallyaghona village. Kalpana Chakma is still missing. It is believed that she might have been killed if she did not agree to marry Lieutenant Ferdous, the officer who led the abduction. Abduction of indigenous women is not unusual in CHT. Abduction and forced marriage of indigenous women are used as a technique to islamize the indigenous Buddhist people of CHT.

Bengali settlers rape a minor Tripura girl in Manikchhari

On 12 February 2015, a Muslim settler attempted to rape a minor Tripura girl (10) from Kalapani area under Manikchhari in Khagrachari district.

On that day in the morning the victim went to the market. She was returning home from market. On her way back home a motorcycle driver belonging to Muslim settler community named Mohammad Faruk (26) son of Tanu member (Khalil) offered her a lift and she accepted the offer. At some point Mohammad Faruk stopped the motorcycle at a quiet place and tried to grab her. At that time the victim shouted and villagers from that neighborhood came to her rescue. But Mohammad Faruk immediately fled the scene. Later on the same day victim’s father filed a case with Manikchhari police station.
