Vira Rani Chakma
On 19 December 1986, Bangladesh army men gang raped Vira Rani Chakma (16) of Nuaram Karbari Para, Dighinala. About 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the Viswa Ram Karbari Para army camp of Dighinala raided the indigenous Chakma village of Nuaram Karbari Para in the morning. All the male inhabitants of the village were taken by force to cut the jungle surrounding the army camp. Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 a.m. and on the pretext of searching entered the houses. All the women and the girls who were in their houses, were stripped by the soldiers and were gang raped. Even the minors were not spared.

Bangladesh army detain 3 indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Babuchara

On 27 April 1996, Mohammad Karim a Muslim settler and rickshaw puller mistreated 3 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Babuchara village. Naturally they protested at his arrogant behaviour. Then, the Muslim rickshaw puller complained to the Babuchara Army Headquarters that those 3 indigenous Buddhists had insulted him. To argue with any Muslim settler however wrong he/she might be is a serious offence in Bangladesh.

So, Havildar Rahmat arrested those 3 indigenous Chakma Buddhists and took them to Dighinala Police Station for their imprisonment on the same night. 3 indigenous people were

  1. Mr. Milton Chakma
  2. Mr. Sharadindu Chakma
  3. Mr. Ananda Bilash Chakma

However the Police set Mr. Milton Chakma free but falsely implicated the other 2 indigenous Chakma Buddhists with the Shanti Bahini and sent them to Khagrachari Jail. Later they were released on bail on written condition.
