Bangladesh government moves 11 settler families in Panchari

In the name of vacating Kalanal Muslim settlement and returning them to indigenous people, Bangladesh government moved 11 Muslim settler families from Kalanal to Shantilla in Panchari.

Bangladesh government did not move the Muslim settler families outside the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) as it promised to indigenous refugees in India and international community. Bangladesh government rehabilitated about 70 new Muslim settler families in this new settlement of Shantila.

Bangladesh government did not completely vacate Kalanal village. Bangladesh government set up a new Muslim settlement at Shantilla. In fact, it has no intention to return Kalanal village to the indigenous people who are the lawful owners of the said village. It has shifted ll Muslim settler families from Kalanal to Shantilla only to deceive the indigenous refugees in India and international community.

Perhaps, it is noteworthy that the Bangladesh government brings into the CHT many Muslim settler families by bus everyday particularly at night, shelter them in various Police headquarters for few days and then ferry them to new Muslim settlements for their proper rehabilitation.

Recently, Bangladesh government has allotted Taka 3 million to settle 500 new Muslim settler families at the highlands near Rangamati College and Noadam of Kantachari within Rangamati Municipality and another 215 new Muslim settler families at a site north west of Banarupa in Rangamati Town or Municipality.
