Suradini Chakma of Mallya Massace
On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers killed at least 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Mrs. Suradini Chakma the wife of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the ferry. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bangladesh army backed chairmen and members hold meeting at Bagerhat

On 19 Dec 1994, under the instructions of Bangladesh army Mr. Parijat Kusum Chakma the Chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council, Mr. Samiran Dewan the Chairman of the Khagrachari Hill District Council and several members of Hill District Councils held a public meeting with the Muslim settlers and indigenous people at Bagerhat.

Mr. Parijat Kusum Chakma assured them of his efforts to create a new Mouza in the Bagerhat area, which is an integral part of the Kasalong Reserve Forest although the existing laws forbid the destruction of the Reserve Forest and also the creation of any settlements in the Reserve Forest.

The actual aim behind the creation of a new Mouza is not only to set up more Muslim settlement in the area, but also to bring the whole Kasalong Reserve Forest under the full control of the Bangladesh army and Bangladesh armed forces by connecting the Kasalong valley with the Sajek area with roads.

Mr. Parijat Kusum Chakma also gave BD Taka 5,000 to a local Mosque and Madrasa, and another BD Taka 5,000 to a local Buddhist Temple.

It is important to note that Bangladesh army nominates all Chairmen and Members of the Hill District Councils and so all the Councillors have to obey the orders of their Bangladesh army masters. Mr. Parijat Kusum Chakma is no exception.
