On 26 August 2003; Bangladesh army in league with Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people in Mahalchari. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers set fire on more than 370 indigenous Buddhist houses. An indigenous Chakma man and an indigenous Chakma infant (8 months) were killed. More than 1000 indigenous Buddhist people were rendered homeless. Lemucharipara Buddhist Temple and Babupara Buddhist Temple were burnt down. Lord Buddha's images were demolished. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers raped 10 indigenous Chakma women.

Sheikh Hasina visits Logang Massacre site

On 27 April 1992, Sheikh Hasina visited the Logang massacre site (on the request of the leaders of the Hill Student Council) and interviewed some of the victims. She addressed a public gathering same day at Pujgang High School ground and blamed the Khaleda Zia government for the massacre.

Sheikh Hasina assured the audience that she would do everything possible for the people of the CHT and that she would solve the CHT problem once for all if she goes to power.

18 Members of Parliament accompanied her. Among them were Mr. Shahjahan Siraj (Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal), Mr. Surajit Sen Gupta (leader of the Jatiya Ekata Party) and 16 Awami League MPs.

On the same day some of them also spoke at public meetings held at Logang, Khagrachari, Matiranga, Manikchari (of Ramgarh area) and Guimara.
