On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. Bangladesh police fight indigenous people whose land was grabbed by Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Baghaichari

On 22 January 1992, Bangladesh army from Karengatali army camp led by Capt. Masiur Rahman arrested an indigenous Buddhist man at Karengatali Bazar in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. Bangladesh army tortured him in various ways including forcing water through his nostril till he became unconscious. The victim is:

  1. Mr. Bishwamuni Chakma (25), son of Mr. Apuranjan Chakma of Balukhali village in Baghaichari.

On the same day (22 January 1992), Capt. Masiur Rahman beat a Buddhist monk Rev. Bodhimitra Bhikkhu, the Director of the Balukaram Bauddha Vihar at Balukhali village in Baghaichari. Capt. Rahman beat the monk with a rifle stock till he was seriously injured and bleeding.

On same day (22 Jan 1992) Capt. Masiur Rahman attacked, vandalized and desecrated 2 more Buddhist temples of the nearby Moghban and Jhagrabeel villages in Baghaichari, Rangamati district.
