On the night between 3-4 September 2009 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers killed Ponemala Tripura (50) wife of Bhibishan Tripura at Sindukchari under Mahalchari. The villagers recovered her dead body from their farm in the morning of 4 September 2009. She had a land dispute with the Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh army torture 2 indigenous men in Mahalchari

On 26 Nov. 1991, Bangladesh army arrested and tortured 2 indigenous people at Mahalchari Bazar in Khagrachari district for not having permission to shop or sell at Mahalchari Bazar. The victims are:

1. Mr. Jamini Chakma (32), son of Mr. Bamacharan Chakma of Jagana Toli, Naniachar.
2. Mr. Chigan Chandra Chakma (35), address as above.

Leut. Col. Shaheedul Islam of 24 East Bengal Regiment of Bangladesh army in Mahalchari decreed an order to arrest those indigenous people who came to Mahalchari Bazar for shopping without permit issued by the army authorities.
