On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous victims live in open ground after their homes were burnt down by the Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh police detain indigenous man in Rangamati

On 7 July 1991, Bangladesh police from Rangamati Police Station led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mr. Iqbal arrested Mr. Bijoy Keton Chakma, son of Mr. Banshi Mohan Chakma without warrant.

At 12:00 noon the police came to Mr. Chakma's house at Kalpataru Shilpa Niketon, Jail Road, Rangamati. Bangladesh police took him to the police station on the pretext of discussing some matters.

But after taking him to police station, he was kept idly sitting there upto 9:00 p.m. Afterwards, Bangladesh police accused him of anti-state activities and arrested him. Bangladesh police kept him in the police station the whole night.

On 8 July 1991 at 11 a.m. Bangladesh police sent him to the court. Then he was sent to Rangamati Jail. He was in jail for 4 months under Special Power Act 1974.
