When whole country was celebrating the victory day of the country on 16 Dec 2014, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous people in Bagachari area of Naniarchar to evict them from their traditional land. 50 indigenous houses, 7 shops and 1 Buddhist temple were destroyed.

Bangladesh army open fire on indigenous people in Naniachar

On 30 June 1991, in reprisal to the Shanti Bahini attack of 29 June 1991, Bangladesh army of 8th EBR from Burighat army camp opened fire on 5 indigenous people who were returning home by boat from Kudukchari Bazar. Indigenous people jumped into the water of Kaptai Lake and narrowly escaped death. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Sadi Laksya Chakma (39), son of Mr. Bhoirab Chakma.
  2. Mr. Chandra Kumar Chakma (47), son of late Nila Chakma.
  3. Mr. Nila Kanta Chakma (60).
  4. Mr. Dhenga Chakma (22), son of Mr. Mangal Mohan Chakma.
  5. Mr. Indra Moni Chakma (38).
  6. Mr. Lulu Chakma (39), son of Mr. Nirendra Lal Chakma.
