Bangladesh army expel indigenous people from their homes in Dighinala

On 7 April 1991, Bangladesh army led by Maj. Hydar uprooted indigenous people from their village at Kattal Tali(Jam Tali) in Dighingla, Khagrachari district. Bangladesh army damaged their houses and herded them to so called cluster villages which are nothing but concentration camps. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Gobinda Chakma, son of Mr. Raj Moni Chakma.
  2. Mr. Pradip Chakma, son of Mr. Kiba Moy Chakma.
  3. Mr. Proddut Dewan, son of Mr. Basanta Dewan.
  4. Bannya Hula Dewan, son of Mr. Basanta Dewan.

In Chttagong Hill Tracts, there are some cluster villages in which the indigenous people are compelled to live. Those cluster villages are nothing but concentration camps. In many cases established indigenous villages are deliberately damaged and the villagers are resettled to those cluster villages. Bangladesh army directly controls the cluster villages. The purposes of these cluster village programme are as following:

  1. To increase economic crisis of the indigenous people.
  2. To make them dependent on relief goods supplied by the army.
  3. To rehabilitate the Muslim settlers to indigenous villages.
  4. To make it easy to control the indigenous people, etc.
