On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Rangamati

On 28 March 1991, Bangladesh army of 21 EBR from Kaindya army camp led by a captain and 2nd in command arrested and torutued 11 indigenous people at Kaindya army camp in Rangamati.

The vicitms had the permission by the camp commander to extract and sell banboos for their livelihood. Yet, they were beaten for extracting and selling bamboos. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Rashik Chandra Chakma (26), son of Mr. Kandara Chakma, of Kaindya, Rangamati.
  2. Mr. Bimaleshwar Chakma (36), son of Mr. Ranjanya Chakma.
  3. Mr. Dayachan Chakma (22), son of Mr. Chigon Batya Chakma.
  4. Mr. Areibua Chakma (22).
  5. Mr. Dilip Chakma (20), son of Mr. Godaram Chakma.
  6. Mr. Godaram Chakma (45), son of Mr. Nanda Kumar Chakma.
  7. Mr. Laxmidhan Chakma (55), son of Mr. Ananda Kumar Chakma.
  8. Mr. Ashwini Kumar Chakma (28), son of Mr. Laxmidhan Chakma.
  9. Mr. Surendra Chakma (26), son of Mr. Mereiya Chakma
  10. Mr. Shantimoy Chakma (30).
  11. Mr. Dilip Kumar Chakma (35, son of Mr. Ranjanya Chakma.

On 28 March 1991, Bangladesh army of 21 EBR from Kaindya army camp surrounded Kaindya Dozori Adam in Rangamati sub-district. Bangladesh arrested an indigenous person on false allegation of supplying food to the Shanti Bahini. The victim is:

  1. Mr. Santosh Bikash Chakma (25), son of Indra Mohan Chakma of Kaindya Dozori Adam, Rangamati.
