On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Rangamati

On 17 January 1991, Bangladesh army of 8th Engineering Corp. from Harekkhyong Army Camp led by Capt. Mizanur Rahman launched a military operation against the indigenous people at Dhamai Chara Kijing of Bag Mara Mouza in Rangamati sub-district.

During the operation, Bangladesh army arrested and seriously tortured many indigenous Chakma Buddhists. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Ajitta Chakma (65), son of Mr. Thiti Chatra Chakma of Dhamai Chara Kijing, Bag Mara Mouza, Rangamati sub-district.
  2. Mr. Shata Chandra Chakma (34), son of Mr. Chela Chakma, address as above.
  3. Mr. Harish Chandra Chakma (28), son of Mr. Badana Mohan Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Shadhan Chandra Chakma (25), son of Mr. Girima Chandra Chakma of Haladhar Para, Merung Bazar, Dighinala.

On 23 January 1991, Capt. Mizanur Rahaman, the commander of the above mentioned army camp brutally tortured to Mr. Reboti Chakma, son of Mr. Khai Kumar Chakma of Kijing Adam, Tibira Chara of Banduk Bhanga Mouza in Rangamati sub-district.
