On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma couple pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.

Bangladesh army forcibly relocate indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Zurachari

On 22 October 1990, Bangladesh Army of the 10 East Bengal Regiment (EBR) from the Shaheed Atiyar Camp and 35 EBR from the Thangchi Army Camp led by Maj. Haleem carried out a military operation to move the indigenous people of Panchari village in Zurachari, Rangamati district to concentration camp.

Bangladesh army robbed all valuable things, burnt the houses and then forcibly shifted the indigenous Buddhist villagers to a cluster village or concentration camp at gun point. Bangladesh Government moves the indigenous people to cluster villages against their will in order to distribute their ancestral villages and farmlands to Muslim settlers.

The relocated indigenous Buddhist victims are:

  1. Mr. Rebati Mohan Chakma (60), son of Mr. Jamadhar Chakma
  2. Mr. Gunadhar Chakma (50), son of Mr. Taluk Chakma
  3. Mr. Ranjan Mohan Chakma (55), son of Mr. Jogendra Chakma and so on
