On 25 December 1986 at 6:00 a.m Bangladeshi army personnel from the Dighinala cantonment rounded up Mr. Baribindu Chakma (38) son of Mr. Jatindra Lal Chakma of Sadhok Chara, Dighinala. Bangladesh army tied his hands and then severely beat him. Bangladesh army men laid him on the ground and kicked him like a football. They hammered his fingers. He was released after 8 and 1/2 hours of torture. He took refuge in Tripura state of India.

Bangladesh army detain and torture 3 indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Khagrachari

On 11 January 1990, Bangladesh Army personnel from the Bizitala Camp within Khagrachari Sub-District arrested 3 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at their homes at dead of night and took them to the Army Camp. All the victims were tortured and charged with the false allegation of being the members of the Shanti Bahini.

The indigenous victims are:

  1. Mr. Dhrubajay Chakma (53) the son of Mr. Chandra Mohan Chakma of Ultachari village, was released after being subjected to various types of torture.
  2. Mr. Rangachan Chakma (61), the son of Mr. Subal Chandra Chakma from Ultachari village is still being detained at Khagrachari Army Camp
  3. Mr. Debachandra Chakma (28), the son of Mr. Kamini Ranjan Chakma from Ultachari village is still being detained at Khagrachari Army Camp
