On 19 December 1986, Bangladesh army men gang raped Rita Chakma (13) of Nuaram Karbari Para, Dighinala. About 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the Viswa Ram Karbari Para army camp of Dighinala raided the indigenous Buddhist village of Nuaram Karbari Para in the morning. All the male inhabitants of the village were taken by force to cut the jungle surrounding the army camp. Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 a.m. and on the pretext of searching entered the houses. Bangladesh army stripped all the women and the girls who were in their houses, and gang raped. Even the minors were not spared.

Bangladesh army rapes and tortures indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Dighinala

On 4 Dec. 1989, an armed encounter took place between the Shanti Bahini and the Bangladesh army in Dighinala, Khagrachari district. Bangladesh army suffered casualties in the encounter.

In reprisal Bangladesh army from Dighinala Cantonment tortured and raped indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Dayanidhir Karbari Para in Dighinala, Khagrachari district. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Niranjay Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Bandajya Chakma, of Dayanidhir Karbari Para, Dighinala. BD Army beat and tortured him.
  2. Miss Padma Sona Chakma, 23 yrs,daughter of Mr. Singhamuni Chakma, address as above. BD Army raped her.
  3. Mrs. Pushpadevi Chakma, 25 yrs, wife of Mr. Sadhan Kumar Chakma, address as above. BD Army raped her.
