On 14 December 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Baghaichari and Dighinala following the death of a settler named Mohamed Sattar. An indigenous woman named Chikon Mila Chakma was killed in Dighinala and at least 10 indigenous people were injured. Mr. Ronik Chakma was one of the indigenous victims.

Bangladesh army open fire on indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Dighinala

On 14 Sept. 1989, Bangladesh army suffered casualties at the hands of the Shanti Bahini in an armed encounter in Dighinala, Khagrachari district. In reprisal the Bangladesh army personnel from the camp at 10 mile post on Baghaihat road attacked the indigenous Buddhist village Kangarima Chara in Dighinala, Khagrachari district with mortars and automatic weapons.

As a result of the indiscriminate attack, innocent indigenous Buddhist inhabitants were killed and wounded. Bangladesh army set indigenous Buddhist houses on fire, arrested innocent indigenous people, took them to army camp and inhumanly tortured them.

The victims are:

  1. Mrs. Dhana Mala Chakma, 45 yrs, wife of Mr. Tungya Chakma, of Kangarima Chara, Dighinala. She was killed by army firing.
  2. Mr. Tungya Chakma, 48 yrs, son of Mr. Prabhu Chakma, address as above.
  3. Mr. Rautya Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Tungyaram Chakma, address as above. He was injured when an army bullet hit him on the back.
  4. Mrs. Patenga Rani Chakma, 28 yrs, wife of Mr. Jitenya Chakma, address as above. She was wounded with a bullet injury on her head.
  5. Mr. Titenya Chakma, 32 yrs, son of Mr. Tungyaram Chakma, address as above. He was wounded with a bullet injury on his leg.
  6. Mr. Bhadra Sen Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire.
  7. Mr. Bijoy Bikash Chakma, 60 yrs, son of Mr. Lamba Shira Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire and he was arrested and taken to the army camp where he was subjected to torture.
  8. Mr. Khularam Chakma, 70 yrs, son of late Janmajoy Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire.
  9. Mr. Bira Kumar Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Gaiya Chakma, address as above. As above.
  10. Mr. Banshi Mohan Chakma, 45 yrs, address as above. As above.
  11. Mr. Nurgi Chakma, 42 yrs, address as above. As above.
  12. Mr. Marattua Chakma, 28 yrs, son of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above. As above.
  13. Mr. Jagadish Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Kamini Ranjan Chakma, address as above. He was arrested and taken to the army camp at Baghaihat.
  14. Mr. Prati Sudhan Chakma, 15 yrs, son of Mr. Boudra Chakma, address as above. The victim is a school student of Class VII. Arrested as above.
  15. Mr. Baudra Chakma, 50 yrs, address as above. Arrested as above.
