Jyoti Ranjan Chakma, victim of Muslim settler attack at Jaliapara
On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. At Jaliapara, the Muslim settlers stopped every vehicle and looked for indigenous people. Senior government official Jyoti Ranjan Chakma was taken off a bus and severely beaten up.

Bangladesh army tortures indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar

On 17 August 1989, Bangladesh army arrested and tortured following indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Naniachar, Rangamati district. Bangladesh army arrested them when they went to enquire about their sons and relations who were missing since the communal riot carried out by the Muslim settlers and Bangladesh army on 16 August 1989. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Dhan Kumar Chakma, 60 yrs, son of Mr. Kinachan Chakma, of South Hatimara, Naniachar.
  2. Mr. Chandra Chakma, 50 yrs, son of Mr. Nila Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  3. Mr. Lamba Shira Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr.Laxmi Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Shanti Ranjan Chakma, 28 yrs, son of Mr. Hala Chakma, of Dhalyachari, Naniachar.
