On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh army detains and tortures indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Mahalchari

On 22 June 1989, Bangladesh army of 24 EBR led by Capt. Rabbani from Mahalchari Army Camp raided the indigenous Buddhist village Monatek in Mahalchari, Khagrachari district. During the raid Bangladesh army arrested, beat and tortured following indigenous Chakma Buddhists:

  1. Mr. Sunitimay Chakma, 25 yrs, son of Mr. Gopal Chandra Chakma of Monatek, Mahalchari. He was arrested from his house and was taken to the army camp.
  2. Mr. Samiran Chakma, 32 yrs, son of Mr. Dina Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  3. Mr. Shanti Chakma, 23 yrs, son of Mr. Dina Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  4. Mr. Birendra Chakma, 20 yrs, son of Mr. Gopal Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  5. Mr. Kumud Bikash Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Braja Mohan Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  6. Mr. Manaranjan Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Kumud Bikash Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  7. Mr. Aggapan Chakma, 16 yrs, son of Mr. Shantimay Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  8. Mr. Bakul Bikash Chakma, 16 yrs, son of Mr. Ranjanmani Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  9. Mr. Pratimay Chakma, 24 yrs, son of Mr. Chandra Kumar Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  10. Mr. Parimal Chakma, 46 yrs, son of Mr. Girindranath Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  11. Mr. Jagamay Chakma, 33 yrs, son of Mr. Girindranath Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  12. Mr. Swapan Chakma, 43 yrs, son of Mr. Chandranath Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
  13. Mr. Smriti Alo Chakma, 20 yrs, son of Mr. Prabhat Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly tortured and was released on 26 June 1989.
