On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh army tortures indigenous Chakma students in Naniachar

On 21 Feb. 1989, Bangladesh army of 31 EBR from Ghagra Zone led by Lt. Col. Anwar Hossain tortured indigenous school students at the premises of Junior High School at Bakchari in Naniachar, Rangamati district. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Bijay Ranjan Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Dwitiya Chandra Chakma of Bakchari, Naniachar. He is a student of Bakchari Junior High School.
  2. Mr. Sumud Dewan, 15 yrs, son of Mr. Mridul Kanti Dewan, address as above. He is a student of year 8, Shah High School, Rangamati, CHT.
  3. Mr. Panchshwa Chakma, 16 yrs, son of Mr. Sukra Chandra Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Chintamoni Talukdar, 19 yrs, son of Mr. Sashadhar Talukdar, address as above.
