On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.

Bangladesh army terrorizes indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Khagrachari

On 11 Feb. 1989, Bangladesh army of 31 EBR from Khagrachari Zone on pretext of search for Shanti Bahini raided the indigenous Buddist village Kumod Bikash Para, in Khagrachari. The raid was carried out at 8.30 PM. During the raid, Bangladesh army carried out house to house searches. Bangladesh army arrested indigenous Buddhist inhabitants, beat them and took them across the river Chengi.

Bangladesh army subjected the arrested persons to interrogation and kept the victims on the bridge over the Chengi river for the whole night in shivering cold.

Next day Bangladesh army took the indigenous Buddhist victims to the Zonal HQ at Khagrachari where they were again subjected to torture and interrogation after which they were released. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Jhantu Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Bankim Chandra Chakma of Kumod Bikash Para, Khagrachari.
  2. Mr. Binay Chakma, 22 yrs, son of Mr. Bhabani Prasad Chakma, address as above.
  3. Mr. Bidyaban Chakma, 21 yrs, son of Mr. Dhana Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Bhagyaban Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Dhana Chakma, address as above.
  5. Mr. Lalit Bhusan Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Biraj Chakma, address as above.
  6. Mr. Meghanath Chakma, 22 yrs, son of Mr. Biraj Chandra Chakma, address as above.
  7. Mr. Biraj Chandra Chakma, 60 yrs, son of Mr. Dalapan Chakma, address as above.
  8. Mr. Badi Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Biraj Chandra Chakma, address as above.
  9. Mr. Sushil Chakma, 21 yrs, son of Mr. Kalindra Chakma, address as above.
