On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Rangamati

On 27 Dec 1988, Bangladesh army from Kudukchari Camp led by Major Salauddin arrested 2 indigenous persons in Rangamati. Bangladesh army took them to the army camp at Kudukchari. Bangladesh army severely tortured 2 indigenous men. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Samar Bijay Chakma (25), son of Mr. Bijali Kumar Chakma of Maischari, Naniachar.
  2. Mr. Sudha Priya Chakma (30), son of Mr. Sudarshan Chakma, address as above.
