On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. Indigenous Buddhist girl Mithu Marma (13) was seriously injured in the attack.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Khagrachari

On 21 Oct. 1988, Bangladesh army of 1 EBR from the Zonal HQ at Mohalchari led by Lt. Col. Sadek Ali raided indigenous Buddhist village Surendra Lal Karbari Para (DP Para) of Noonchari in Khagrachari.

During the raid, Bangladesh army gathered all indigenous inhabitants in a paddy field and subjected them to inhumane beating.

Bangladesh army arrested 8 indigenous people and took them to APB (Armed Police Battalion) Camp in Maischari. Bangladesh army subjected the indigenous villagers to beating, torture and electrocution.

The raiding party included Muslim settlers. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers falsely accused indigenous inhabitants of giving food and shelter to the Shanti Bahini. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Rebati Ranjan Chakma (25), son of Mr. Nishidhan Chakma of Surendra Lal Karbari Para (DP Para), Noon Chari, Khagrachari. The victim was inhumanly tortured till his release on 29 Nov. 1988.
  2. Mr. Surendra Lal Karbari (60), son of Late Chamba Khisa, address as above. He was beaten and tortured at the camp.
  3. Mr. Zuran Dhan Khisa (50), son of Late Chamba Khisa, address as above. Beaten as above.
  4. Mr. Paran Dhan Khisa (48), son of Late Chamba Khisa, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  5. Mr. Sadhan Bikash Khisa (25), son of Mr. Paran Dhan Khisa, address as above. Beaten as above.
  6. Mr. Nirmal Khisa (22), son of Mr. Surendra Lal Karbari, address as above. Beaten as above.
  7. Mr. Kakil Dhan Khisa (35), son of Mr. Surendra Lal Karbari, address as above. Beaten as above.
  8. Mr. Dayadhan Khisa (55), son of Mr. Kalya Khisa, address as above. Beaten as above.
  9. Mr. Suniti Khisa (28), son of Mr. Zuran Dhan Khisa, address as above.
  10. Mr. Kandira Khisa (21), son of Mr. Zuran Dhan Khisa, address as above.
  11. Mr. Bhupendra Chakma (50), son of Mr. Nuaram Chakma, address as above.
  12. Mr. Dumma Khisa (23), son of Mr. Dayadhan Khisa, address as above.
  13. Mr. Jyotish Chakma (18), son of Mr. Bhupendra Chakma, address as above.
  14. Mr. Nishi Dhan Chakma (46), son of Mr. Priya Mohan Chakma, address as above.
