On 5 April 2017, Bangladesh army arrested Romel Chakma (19) from Naniarchar Bazar in Rangamati district. Bangladesh army took him to Naniarchar zone headquarters. Lt. Col. Bahalul Alam and Major Tanvir inhumanly tortured him. On 19 April 2017 at 2:00 pm Romel Chakma died during treatment under police custody in Chittagong Medical College hospital. When Romel Chakma's parents and relatives were taking his dead body by boat from Burighat bazar to Hatimara village on 20 April, Bangladesh army snatched the dead body from Ronnel Chakma's relatives at gun point and burned the dead body to ashes in a secret place to destroy evidence.

Bangladesh army murder 2 indigenous persons in Dighinala

On 23-24 Sept. 1988, Bangladesh army of 14 EBR from Tintilla Army Camp led by Lt. Mohammad Iqbal and Bangladesh army from Yorengchari Army Camp led by Abu Bakar jointly launched a military operation against the indigenous inhabitants of Gabachari, Zuropani Chara, Rangapani Chara of Merung in Dighinala, Khagrachari district.

During the operation Bangladesh army shot dead 2, seriously wounded 1 and arrested 10 indigenous persons. Bangladesh army took detainees to the army camp where they were subjected to torture and water was forced through their nostrils. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Bimal Kanti Chakma (28), son of Mr. Birendra Lal Chakma of Gabachari, Merung.
  2. Mr. Chandra Manek Chakma (35), son of Mr. Debendra Chakma, of Gabachari, Merung.
  3. Master Chuntugula Chakma (14), son of Mr. Chandra Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Kalachan Chakma (22), son of Mr. Prasanna Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  5. Mr. Bhadra Ranjan Chakma (28), son of Mr. Tarani Dhan Chakma of Zuropani Chara, Merung.
  6. Mr. Dhenga Chakma (24), son of Mr. Guna Chandra Chakma of South Rangapani Chara, Merung.
  7. Mr. Kachu Chakma (26), son of Mr. Akshay Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  8. Mr. Nagar Chan Chakma (18), son of Mr. Ananda Chakma, address as above.
  9. Mr. Kalabaran Chakma (40), son of Mr. Kishta Mohan Chakma, of Perachara, Mainee Mukh.
  10. Mr. Teddy Chakma (22), son of Mr. Kishta Mohan Chakma, address as above.
  11. Mr. Bira Nanda Chakma (50), son of Mr. Jayanta Chakma of Gabachari, Merung. He was shot dead by the army personnel.
  12. Master Chiranjib Chakma (12), son of Nr. Padasya Chakma, address as above. Killed as above.
  13. Mr. Shantimay Chakma (21), son of Mr. Bira Nanda Chakma, address as above. He was seriously wounded due to army firing.
