On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Khagrachari

On 6 August 1988, Bangladesh army of 203 Brigade from Khagrachari arrested Mr. Lal Putul Chakma, son of late Biraja Kumar Chakma of Khabong Pariya, Khagrachari. Bangladesh army detained and severely tortured him during interrogation.

On 7 August 1988, Bangladesh army of 203 Brigade from Khagrachari arrested 2 indigenous persons at Khabong Pariya in Khagrachari. They were arrested from their homes and were subjected to beating and torture during interrogation. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Lalan Bihari Chakma of Khabong Pariya, Khagrachari.
  2. Mr. Sucharu Chakma, a clerk of District Education Office, Khagrachari.

On 8 August 1988, Bangladesh army of 203 Brigade from Khagrachari arrested several indigenous persons at Khabong Pariya, Khagrachari. Bangladesh army arrested them from their homes at dead of night and subjected them to inhuman torture during interrogation. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Amar Smriti Chakma, son of Mr. Pramod Bikash Chakma, of Khabong Pariya, Khagrachari.
  2. Mr. Pradyut Ray Chakma, son of Mr. Bimaleshwar Chakma, address as above.
