On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. Indigenous Buddhist girl Mithu Marma (13) was seriously injured in the attack.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Rangamati

On 11 July 1988, Bangladesh army of 30 EBR from the army camp at Kuduk Chari led by Capt. Atiqur Rehman raided indigenous Buddhist villages- Manik Chari Madhya Adam and Sukar Chari Bar Para in Rangamati. In the raid, 3 indigenous persons were rounded up from their homes and were taken to the army camp where they were subjected to beating and torture. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Tarani Chakma (55), son of Mr. Sundaraka Chakma of Manik Chari Madhya Adam, Rangamati.
  2. Mr. Surya Charan Chakma (34), son of Mr. Laba Chakma, address as above.
  3. Mr. Sukra Kumar Chakma (29), son of Mr. Ram Chandra Karbari of Sukar Chari Bar Para, Rangamati.
