On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.

Bangladesh army murder 3 indigenous people in Khagrachari

On 1 July 1988, Bangladesh army of 31 EBR from Khagrachari led by Lt. Shamim raided indigenous Buddhist village Harinath Para in Khagradhari.

During the raid, Bangladesh army encircled the house of an indigenous family. Bangladesh army opened fire with automatic weapons at 01:20 hours when members of indigenous family and guests were all asleep. Automatic gun fire instantly killed the house owner and his old mother. Bangladesh army barbarously gang raped and later shot dead a 14 years old girl who was wounded in the attack. Bangladesh army then set the house on fire.

The victims who were killed by Bangladesh army are:

  1. Mr. Man Mohan Chakma (33), son of late Bhada Chakma of Harinath Para, Khagrachari. Bangladesh army killed him by gun fire.
  2. Mrs. Sura Mukhi Chakma (60), widow of late Bhada Chakma, address as above. Killed as above.
  3. Miss Barun Mala Cnakma (14), daughter of Mr. Jalakkamani Chakma, address as above. She was seriously wounded in the attack but the soldiers did not spare her from their beastly gang rape and later she was killed by the soldiers. It is an irony of fate that the victim's family belonged to Jalbanda Mukh, Merung. They were evicted from their ancestral village by the Muslim settlers in 1986.

The victims who were raped, injured and tortured by Bangladesh army are:

  1. Mrs. Mandadhari Chakma (29), wife of Mr. Lalit Kumar Chakma of Rangapani Chara, Golabari Mouza, Khagrachari. She is sister of Mr. Man Mohan Chakma (killed) and came to visit her brother and aged mother. She was also wounded by Bangladesh army firing when a bullet hit her thumb. She was also gang raped by the soldiers.
  2. Mila Chabua Chakma (9 months), daughter of Mr. Lalit Kumar Chakma, address as above. The little baby was also wounded by army firing. The baby and her mother had to go for treatment.
  3. Mrs. Aduri Chakma (19), wife of deceased Man Mohan Chakma, of Harinath Para, Khagrachari. Although she was saved from the army bullets but she was a victim of gang rape by the army personnel in the attack. The soldiers snatched away her 1 year old child who was thrown on the floor and the soldiers committed gang rape.
  4. Mr Jalakkamani Chakma (45), present address Harinath Para, Khagrachari. He was an inhabitant of Jalbanda, Merung. He was evicted from his ancestral village by Muslim settlers in 1986. On the night of the army attack, he was brought out of the house by the soldiers with kicks.
