On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers massacred about 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Bablu Chakma the son of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the vessel. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bangladesh army shot dead an indigenous person in Zurochari

On 1 Feb. 1988, Bangladesh army of 12 East Bengal Regiment from the army camp at Banjogi Chara led by Lt. Col. Akram Hossain launched a military operation against the indigenous people at Banjogi Chara in Zurochari, Rangamati district.

During the operation, Bangladesh army shot dead an indigenous person, beat and molested many indigenous people. The victims are:

1. Mr. Sneha Kumar Chakma (55), son of late Padma Dhar Chakma of Banjogi Chara, Zurochari. He was arrested from the market and severely beaten after which he was shot dead by the Lt. Col.
2. Mr. Shanti Priya Chakma (29), son of Mr. Sneha Kumar Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten up by the army personnel.
3. Miss Priya Laxmi Chakma (15), daughter of Mr. Chikka Lal Chakma, address as above. She was beaten and molested by the army personnel.
4. Mrs. Basanti Bina Chakma (20) wife of Mr. Kalapuna Chakma, address as above. Beaten and molested as above.
5. Miss Tandra Chakma (18), daughter of Mr. Sunil Chakma, address as above. Beaten and molested as above.
6. Miss Swapna Chakma (20), daughter of Mr. Kamini Mohan Chakma, address as above. Beaten and molested as above.
7. Miss Geeta Chakma (19), daughter of Mr. Shantimoy Chakma, address as above. Beaten and molested as above.
8. Mrs. Meena Chakma (25), wife of Bankim Chandra Chakma, address as above. Beaten and molested as above.
9. Master Nashye Chakma (7), son of Mr. Chiba Soga Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten.
10. Master Juba Lal Chakma (7), son of Mr. Nishi Mohan Chakma address as above. Beaten as above.
11. Mr. Ananda Mohan Chakma (60), son of late Chawdhury Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
12. Mr. Ananta Chakma (18), son of Mr. Narottam Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
13. Mr. Anil Dewan (28), son of Mr. Apiteshwar Dewan, address as above. Beaten as above.
