On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Zurochari

On 31 Oct. 1987, Bangladesh army of 12th East Bengal Regiment from the army camp at Fakira Chara led by Lt. Mustafa launched a military operation against the indigenous people in Zurochari, Rangamati district. The military operation was launched in reprisal to the armed clash between the Shanti Bahini and Bangladesh army

During the operation Bangladesh army subjected indigenous people to inhuman beating and torture. The victlua are:

1. Mr. Sumanta Chakma (50), son of Mr. Dila Kumar Chakma of Panchari Mukh, Dumdumya Union, Zurochari. He is the Chairman of the local government. He was subjected to electric shock, severely beaten, water boarded and was hung up side down. All his household properties were robbed and his house was burn to ashes.
2. Mr. Mana Chakma (60), son of Mr. Gasya Chakma of Dumdumya, Zurochari. He was tortured at the army camp at Silchari as above and was seriously injured.
3. Mr. Tung Kala Chakma (40), son of Mr. Bhula Chakma of Mondir Chara, Zurochari. Tortured as above and seriously injured and being kept under army custody.
4. Mr. Bali Chakma (35), son of Mr. Direndra Chakma, address as above. He was tortured as above.
5. Mrs. Guri Mala Chakma (26), wife of Mr. Mahan Chakma of Bandar Haza, Zurochari. She was tortured and seriously injured in her village.
6. Mrs. Dina Mukhi Chakma (60), wife of Mr. Batya Chakma of Upak Chari, Zurochari. He was tortured as above.
7. Mrs. Sumandini Chakma (40), wife of Mr. Ranga Chan Chakma, address as above. He was tortured as above.
8. Mrs. Dhana Mukhi Chakma (28), wife of Mr. Sudatta Priya Chakma, address as above. He was tortured as above.
9. Miss Aduri Chakma (22), daughter of Mr. Tena Karbari, addrass as above. He was tortured as above.
10. Mr. Rasikya Chakma (22), son of Mr. Jnana Chakma of Ponchari Mukh, Zurochari. Tortured and seriously injured in his village.
11. Mr. Kancham Chakma (23), son of Mr. Bizu Mani Chakma, addres as above. He was tortured as above.
12. Mr. Tridip Chakma (22), son of Mr. Chigan Marad Member of Zamer Chari, Zurochari. He was tortured and seriously injured at the army camp at Silchari.
13. Mr. Sudatta Priya Member (30), son of Mr. Tena Karbari of Upak Chari, Zurochari. He was tortured and seriously injured at the army camp at Fakira Chara. He was being kept under army custody.
14. Mr. Bira Sen Karbari (47), of Zamer Chari, Zurochari. He was tortured as above.
15. Mr. Tana Karbari (58) of Upak Chari, Zurochari. He was tortured as above.
