On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed. Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.

Bangladesh army rape and torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Rangamati

On 22 Nov. 1986, Bangladesh army of 40 EBR from the army camp at Ghagra led by a Second Leutenant carried out a military operation against the indigenous Buddhist people of Sukor Chari Bor Para in Rangamati. During the operation many indigenous persons were arrested, beaten and taken to the army camp. The victims are:

3. Mr. Bhagya Moni Chakma (42), son of Mr. Kala Biza Chakma, address as above.
4. Mr. Brigamuni Chakma (38), son of Mr. Kala Biza Chakma, address as above.
5. Mr. Manuram Chakma (55), son of late Boiragya Chakma, address as above.
6. Mr. Buddho Muni Chakma (52), son of late Shishyu Muni Chakma, address as above.
7. Mr. Prabhat Chandra Chakma (35), son of Mr. Dev Ratan Chakma, address as above.
8. Mr. Rajo Moni Chakma (39), son of Mr. Dabaram Chakma, address as above.
9. Mrs. Ranga Devi Chakma (46), widow of late Ram Chandra Chakma, address as above.
10. Mr. Bicchingya Chakma (45), son of Mr. Kala Biza Chakma, address as above.
11. Mr. Kodom Kumar Chakma (52), son of Mr. Mangal Ram Chakma, address as above. Bangladesh army set his house on fire and robbed a bullock, 2 goats and fowls.
12. Mrs. Pushpa Moyee Chakma (22), wife of Mr. Nigira Ratan Chakma, address as above. Bangladesh army raped her and robbed Taka 1500.00 (one thousand and five hundred taka), 2 pairs of silver bracelet and 2 pairs of gold ear rings.
