On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army terrorize indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 21 Nov. 1986, Bangladesh army of 41 EBR from the army camp at Karengatoli led by Major Abdul Bari carried out a military operation against the indigenous Buddhist people of Ugal Chari in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. During the operation, Bangladesh army treated an indigenous Buddhist family in humiliating manner.

Bangladesh army rounded up a joint family of 24 members consisting of grand parents, sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and grand children. Bangladesh army stripped all the members of the family off their clothes. Then after sorting out their relation, the Major punished them in such a way that father and sons, father-in-law and sons-in-law had to stand up and sit down in naked. Their genitals were electrocuted.

Female members who were stripped off their clothes were paraded infront of the male members and were forced to look at each other.
