On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar
On 16 Nov. 1986, a Bangladesh army platoon comprising 32 personnel of 40 EBR from the army camp at Burighat led by Subedar Sultan Ahmed raided indigenous Buddhist village Eest Hetmora (of Burighat) in Naniachar, Rangamati district. During the raid, Bangladesh army arrested and beat many indigenous Chakma Buddhists. Bangladesh army took many indigenous persons to army camp for further detention, interrogation and torture. The victims are:
