On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longadu

On 12 Nov. 1986, Bangladesh army from the army camp at Boiragi Bazar led by Capt. Akhtar raided the indigenous Buddhist village Udoy Chari in Longadu, Rangamati district. During the raid, Bangladesh army severely beat and tortured many indigenous Chakma Budhists. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Bharat Kumar Karbari (45), son of Mr. Cizi Karbari of Udoy Chari, Longadu. He was arrested and detained at the army camp.
  2. Mr. Binoy Prasad Chakma (23), son of Mr. Vira Kumar Chakma, address as above. As above.
  3. Mr. Uttom Kumar Chakma (22), son of Mr. Badi Vaidya Chakma, address as above. As above.
  4. Mr. Rongo Muni Chakma (35), son of Mr. Giri Ranjan Chakma, address as above. As above.
  5. Mr. Elly Chan Chakma (35), son of Mr. Begol Muni Chakma, address as above. As above.
