On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Mohalchari

On 6 Nov. 1986, Bangladesh army of 32 EBR from the army camp at Betchari led by Major Sherif launched a military operetion against the indigenous Buddhist village West Manik Chari in Mohalchari, Khagrachari district. During the operation, Bangladesh army severely beat indigenous Chakma Buddhists and robbed their properties. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Morottua Chakma (22), son of Mr. Kinaram Chakma of West Manik Chari, Mohalchari. He wes severely beaten in his house.
  2. Mrs. Ranjana Chakma (35), wife of Mr. Bimaleshwar Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  3. Mrs. Podola Ma Chakma (28), wife of Mr. Sashi Mohan Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  4. Mr. Nirendra Chakma (70), son of late Tambru Chakma, address as above. Bangladesh army rounded him up from his house and took him to the army camp at Betchari where he was severely beaten. Later, he was released. Bangladesh army robbed 1 tape recorder, 1 silver chain, Taka 200.00 (two hundred taka) from his house.
