On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked 5 indigenous Buddhist villages in Ramgarh and 2 indigenous villages in Manikchari in Chittagong Hill Tracts. In this attack around 200 indigenous houses including 2 Buddhist temples were torched. At least 20 indigenous people were injured and at least half dozen indigenous people were missing. Muslim settlers damaged and desecrated the Buddha image.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 8 Oct. 1986, Bangladesh army of 41 EBR from the army camp at Karengatoli led by Major Abdul Bari severely tortured indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Sadhon Kumar Chakma (33), son of Mr. Surya Mohan Chakma of Ugolchari, Baghaichari. He was severely beaten by the major who caught him on the way when he was returning home.
  2. Mr. Morottua Chakma (28), son of Mr. Nagendra Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  3. Mr. Sindhujoy Chakma (28), son of Mr. Purna Kumar Chakma, address as above. He was returning home from the market and was beaten as above.
  4. Mr. Jeevan Kishto Chakma (60), son of late Palongya Chakma, address as above. He was beaten on the road when he came infront of the army personnel.
  5. Mr. Pulin Bihari Chakma (18), son of Mr. Jayanta Kumar Chakma, address as above. He was beaten in his house.
  6. Master Lal Bihari Chakma (12), son of Mr. Mahendra Chakma of Joutha Khamar, Ugolchari, Baghaichari. He was beaten as above.
  7. Mrs. Binodini Chakma (52), widow of late Choy Angulya Chakma of Ugolchari, Baghaichari. She was beaten as above.
  8. Mr. Sukh Bilash Chakma (43), son of Mr. Padma Kumar Chakma of Lalyaghona, Baghaichari. He was severely beaten on the road when he was returning home from the market.
  9. Mr. Bindu Kumar Chakma (18), son of Mr. Nirendra Chakma of Moro Ghona, Baghaichari. He was severely beaten at Ugolchari when he was returning from school.
  10. Mr. Lolit Chandra Chakma (45), son of Mr. Kandara Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten on the road when he was returning home from the market.
  11. Mr. Bipin Kumar Chakma (43), son of Mr. Noromya Chakma of Lalya Ghona, Baghaichari. He was severely beaten as above.
  12. Mr. Sukhomoy Chakma (29), son of Mr. Tejendra Karbari, address as above. He was severely beaten as above.
  13. Mr. Samar Bikash Chakma (24), son of Mr. Varna Lal Chakma of Baghaichari. He was severely beaten as above.
  14. Mr. Mrigendu Bikash Chakma (49), son of Mr. Punya Sen Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten by the army personnel at Baghaichari School.
  15. Mr. Surot Singh Chakma (26), son of Mr. Reboti Lal Chakma of Baghaichari. He was severely beaten at Baghaichari School by the army personnel.
  16. Mr. Amar Jyoti Chakma (21), son of Mr. Mrigendu Bikash Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten as above.
  17. Mr. Bipuleshwar Chakma (28), son of Mr. Chironjeet Chakma, address as above. He was returning from work at Marishya. He was severely beaten by the soldiers.
  18. Mr. Kalo Varan Chakma (51), son of Mr. Madan Mohan Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten and electrocuted at Baghaichari School.
  19. Mr. Dhono Muni Chakma (23), son of Mr. Ranjan Kumar Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten and electrocuted as above.
  20. Mr. Prabhat Kusum Chakma (24), son of Mr. Smriti Mohan Chakma of Dighinala. He went to visit his relations at Baghaichari where he was beaten and elctrocuted at Baghaichari School by Major Bari.
