On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Buddhist monk surveys his gutted temple.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 6 0ct. 1986, Bangladesh army of 41 EBR from Karengatuli Army Camp led by Major Bari raided the indigenous Buddhist villages Kozu Chara and Bhuiyo Chara in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. Bangladesh army detained, beat and subjected many indigenous people to physical tortures during the raid. Bangladesh army took many indigenous people to the army camp for interrogation and further physical tortures. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Shuvo Lal Chakma (32), son of Mr. Deva Chakma, of Kozu Chara Baghaichari. The victim was arrested in his house and was taken to the army camp at Marishya where he was subjected to severe beating and inhuman torture with electric shocks, water was poured into his nose and mouth till he fainted. He was released after 4 days of torture.
  2. Mr. Taruni Sen Chakma, (18), son of Mr. Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was tortured as above.
  3. Mr. Bhula Chakma, (18), son of Mr. Anil Chakma, address as above. He was tortured as above and was released after 2 days of torture.
  4. Mr. Chikon Chan Chakma, (19), son of Mr. Italy Chandra Chakna, address as above. He was tortured as above.
  5. Mr. Futya Tallo Chakma, (40), son of Mr. Sama Chandra Chakma of Bhuiyo Chara, Baghaichari. He was brought out of his house and then was subjected to severe beating and water was poured into his nose and mouth till he fainted.
  6. Mr. Profulleshwar Chakma, (50), son of Mr. Lal Manik Chakma, address as above. He was tortured as above.
